Pardoner:
- Money can be won by a good performance
- Average people are gullible and will believe anything
Pardoner’s Tale:
- The love of money is the root of all evil
- Elders should be respected
- Oaths should not be taken in vain
- Drink (alcohol) leads to bad judgment and death
- Friends should be chosen carefully, and are close enough to stab you in the back
In general, the themes from the Pardoner’s Tale are timeless, and Chaucer’s themes are relevant to his time period. Depending on the optimism of the audience, the Pardoner’s themes can be either.
